Abbreviated or Short Code Dialing is a facility by which you can dial your frequently called numbers by pressing only 1 or 2 digits saving your valuable time.

You will be able to set or change the assignment of abbreviated codes against maximum 10 telephone numbers any time.

Call transfer is a facility by which you can decide to forward all your incoming calls to a predetermined number situated at another place. When this is activated, you will get a different dial tone but it will be possible to originate outgoing calls from the number.

To activate this facility you are to dial 114 followed by the phone number where you like to forward all incoming calls. Once you get back, you have to deactivate this facility by dialling 115 and you receive incoming calls in your number again.

Call waiting facility is provided free of any subscription to all telephone lines.

You can activate this facility by dialing 118. When you are in conversation, you will get an alert tone if a second incoming call lands, you can hold or disconnect the first call and answer the second call. To receive the second flash the hook switch and press 1. To get back to the first call, flash the hook switch and press 2.

By dialling 119 you can deactivate Call waiting facility.

Electronic Clearance Scheme or ECS is a facility by which you can give option to pay your Telephone Bill directly from your bank Account and get rid of all bill payment hassles. You will get an unique number of 10 digits and you can publish this number for the access of your customers. A caller to this number will be charged.

You can shift your telephone anywhere in Calcutta Telephones area at any point of time after the payment of first bill. Apply to your current area commercial officer in a prescribed form along with a paid copy of current bill and proof of new address. Please carry your telephone instrument to your new address.

You can also shift your telephone through out India provided your telephone works at least for one and half years.

- Telephone connection may be transferred in the name of a near relative viz. Father, mother, wife, husband, son or daughter, brother or sister including stepbrother or stepsister provided it has worked for a period of one year or above.

- Transfer of telephone is allowed to any person other than the near relative also.
- Name can also be changed if the name of the company or organization changes.
- In the event of the death of the owner, the telephone may be transferred to widow or widower or otherwise to legal heir or successor. In case there are more than one successor mutual consent of all other heirs or successors is to be obtained.

You can surrender your telephone at any time after the payment of first bill. Apply in a prescribed form along with a paid copy of current bill to your area commercial officer. If you do not own the phone set, deposit it to the Sub Divisional Engineer of your exchange area and get a receipt.

For refund of security deposit you are to apply in plain paper to Accounts Officer TR along with a photocopy of the receipt of the telephone instrument and a copy of demand bill paid at the time of registration. You will be issued a sanction memo.

Deposit your original demand bill along with the copy of the sanction memo to AO/Cash. A cheque of refund amount will be sent to you.

If you are to be out of station for three months or more, you can avail Safe Custody Scheme and get a rebate in your telephone bill. Under this scheme you get a rebate of 40% on the monthly rental.

Apply in prescribed form indicating the tentative period of absence along with the paid copy of current bill to area commercial officer. You will be charged in advance for the tentative period of absence and your line will be kept disconnected.
