Change in Numbering Scheme of
BSNL, Calcutta Telephones - starting with "2"


  Please note :

      
      Regarding change of telephone numbers from seven to eight digits starting
       with "2", kindly take the following steps if not taken already.

     1.  Change the telephone number information from seven to eight digits for
          Call forwarding, Abbreviated dialing and Delayed hot line numbers.

     2. Change the dialled telephone number information in Autodialing settings
           in computer, mobile phones
or other devices.

     For all problems related to number change, we have opened an automated
    24 hrs IVRS service 196 and control room numbers 2254-0512 to 2254-0521
    (from 9 am to 6 pm).

1. The first digit start with "2" followed by the previous seven digits telephone
    number.
     For example,

Existing Number
248-9442
becomes New Number
2248-9442

2. All special services and complaint numbers starting with "1" such as    180,181,197,198,1500, 9351, 1600330033 etc. remain unchanged.

3. In case of WLL fixed telephone, the previous numbers changed to eight     digits. The new number start with the digit 2 followed by the previous seven     digits number. For example,

Existing Number
706-1010
becomes New Number
2706-1010

4. In case of Tarang (WLL-M) service with limited mobility, the first digit of the
    previous telephone number, that is, "7" replaced by "21". For example

Existing Number
700-1792
becomes New Number
2100-1792

5. In case of complaint booking with seven digit number, say 210-2198 for     210 telephone exchange, the complaint number is 2210-2198.

6. NSD/ISD station codes (for level '0' and level '00' calls) such as "011" for Delhi
    and access codes starting with "95" for calls to adjacent areas remain unchanged.

7. India Telephone Card (IT Card or VCC) access numbers such as, 160233     remain unchanged.

8. Two or three digit existing Centrex numbers remain unchanged.

9. Eventually, the telephone numbers of BSNL/MTNL elsewhere in India are also being
    changed in similar fashion starting with "2".
