The Virtual Private Network, as its name suggests, enables the subscriber to establish a private network using existing public network resources. Phone lines form any telephone exchange anywhere in India ( at present select cities only ) can constitute a Virtual Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX). This service offers a very cost effective solution for businesses that require a corporate network but cannot justify the use of leased lines or the cost of their own telecommunication equipment. Features of VPN Service : A VPN group may be formed with direct phone lines from the IN switch ( known as SSP ) itself and telephones from any exchange in cities having at least one SSP. The direct phone lines from the SSP are known as ON-NET locations. VPN members from other telephone exchanges are known as Virtual On-Net locations and these are logically defined to be part of the VPN. Calls from sub groups located within the same SDCA is free. But calls to distant statitions are charged as per applicable STD rates. VPN Group ID :Every VPN group is assigned a 3-digit Group ID. VPN Private Numbering Scheme :
As in a PABX, VPN will also have a separate private numbering plan in addition to the existing PSTN numbers assigned by the telephone exchanges. The VPN subscriber can assign private numbers of fixed predefined length ( 2 to 6 digits) to its members. These are known as PNP numbers. VPNs with upto 64 extensions will be allotted 5 digit PNP number, VPNs with 65 to 512 extensions will be allotted 4 digit PNP number and VPNs with more than 512 extensions will be allotted 3 digit VPN number.
Authorization code :
If phone calls into the VPN group from outside the group or vice-versa, is to be allowed, then in addition a 4-digit Authorization code is also allotted for each PNP number. Every PNP user may modify his/her Authorization code at will any number of times. Dial 99 as PNP number and follow the subsequent prompt from the system. VPN Dialing Plan :
From on-net locations : To access other locations of VPN from an on-net location, one has to dial the PNP number of the destination. From virtual on-net locations: To access any other location within the VPN from a virtual on-net location, Dial 1601-33, listen to the prompt for dialing the destination number and dial PNP number of the desired destination. OFF-NET ACCESS : Any member of the VPN can make call into the VPN from location (phone) other than that defined as part of the VPN using an authorization code. The procedure for this access is as follows : Dial 1601 33, listen to the prompt for Group ID and dial the Group ID. Next listen to the prompt for dialing own PNP number & associatedauthorization code and dial PNP digits followed by the authorization(4 digits). Listen to the prompt for dialing the destination number and dial PNP number of the desired destination.
Accessing phones outside VPN from within the VPN : From on-net locations : Dial "9" followed by destination number. On voice prompt, dial the authorization code associated with the PNP location. From virtual on-net locations: Dial 1601-33, listen to the prompt for dialing the destination number and dial "9" followed by destination number. On voice prompt, dial the authorization code associated with the PNP location.
