India telephone Card (ITC) Service is a pre-paid
card for buying telephone call unit credits. The IT card has
a seal, which, on scratching reveals a 16-digit number. In
order to make use of the ITC the cardholder using any phone
shall have to dial: 1602345/1802345. As per the automatic
voice instruction the caller, after hearing existing value
of the card one can dial the destination number. The destination
number be it a local no. or a STD / ISD no. will also
have to be dialed in the tone-dialing mode. Use of ITC does
not require any special phone set just any phone with
tone dialing capability. Using ITC, any type of call can be
made and the cost of such a call is debited to the pre-paid
credit of the ITC. The phone line from which the call is made
is not charged at all. Even STD calls can be made using ITC
using a phone line that does not have STD facility. There
is no hassle of dynamic locking your phone and sharing password
with anyone else in the family. Each member of your family
may use a separate ITC sharing the same phone line. In case
your ITC is stolen the loss is limited only to the credit
balance left for that ITC - no more. No money refund is given
against any ITC. Cards are replaced on technical ground only.
5 days before the expiry date of the card the user received
an announcement about end date of use. Call charges are Rs.
1.00/- per metered call unit

Dos & Don'ts with ITC :
Immediately after
buying a ITC check using any convenient phone that the credit
balance is
OK.
Before using ITC
check if the phone set can dial out in tone mode.
If the phone instrument
used is having re-dial or display facility, erase the no.
after
disconnecting
the call by lifting
the handset again and dialing any stray digit and replacing
the handset.
Never use the ITC while
someone nearby is looking on.
Never use ITC to make
phone calls from any PCO booth with display facility, as your
secret
16-digit ITC no. will
be revealed to the PCO operator.
It is the ITC holders
responsibility to preserve secrecy of the ITC number.
Who should use ITC ?
ITC does not involve locking unlocking phone facility using
passwords. So, it is highly tamper proof. Also, there is no
detailed record left of the calls made. So, use of ITC ensures
privacy. Lastly since the phone line used to make call using
ITC, one can avoid the embarrassment of using a friends
phone for making a call. Thus ITC has a true universal appeal
from low calling to high calling subscribers.
