AMS (Answering Machine Service) is a voice mail service which will never let you miss a single call / message. All these calls and messages get stored in a private mailbox which is guarded by a secret code known only to you.

This special voice mail service is better, more convenient and more powerful than any other mail service. Isn' t it time that you register for this free service by dialing 1500?

Registration of AMS Service

Your Mail Box

Your mail box number is your STD code + your phone number. Suppose your phone number is 22434343. Your mailbox number in Calcutta would be 03322434343. Your mailbox is protected by a 5 digit password. Initially this password is kept at 11111 which can be changed by you anytime.

Mail Box Setup

You’ll have to dial 170511 or 170512 to access your mail box. Once you dial this number, an automatic user guide would be played on the phone which will help you to set up your mail box. Through this set up you can

•    Create your own password.
•    Record your name.
•    Record your welcome message for the caller.

AMS Activation

If you are a subscriber of new technology exchange (OCB / EWSD) you can use the AMS service in two ways:

1. When you’re not at home or office & there’s ‘no reply’ on your phone.
2. When you’re present at home / office but your phone is busy.

In case you want to avail AMS under no reply situation, you activate this service by dialing 1222170511. Once this is done you hear a special tone which signals activation of your AMS (After this, the dial tone changes). After 8 rings on your phone, the calling party would automatically reach your mailbox. To deactivate the service you can dial 1223 and your telephone resumes normal service.

In case you want to avail AMS when your phone is busy, dial 1220170511 to activate AMS.Once this is done, you hear a special tone which signals the activation of service (after this, the dial tone changes). Now whenever your phone is busy, the calling party will reach the mailbox. To deactivate this mode of AMS, dial 1221.

If you are a subscriber of E10B exchange, you will have to activate this service by dialing 114170511. Once this is done you hear a special tone which signals activation of the service. Now whenever your number is dialed by a calling party, he will reach the mail box. To deactivate this mode of AMS, dial 115.

Retrieving mail box messages

You can easily retrieve your mail box messages from any part of the country / world through any BSNL / MTNL telephone / any mobile. If you are accessing your mailbox from Calcutta Telephones area then its access code will be 170512 and if outside Calcutta Telephones area you have to dial, code of Calcutta 033/9533 followed by 170512. After dialing, AMS will ask for your mail box no. (STD code + Telephone no) and password, after this you can hear your message.

" Direct Message " recording

If you forget to activate AMS facility or your phone is not working, even then, your messages can be recorded in your mail box by the caller. For this, the caller has to dial 9351. AMS will ask phone no. for whom the message needs to be left. After dialing phone no. the caller can record the message in the mail box. This service is available only to those callers who are making their calls in Calcutta.
